I could not put this book down. I was immediately hooked. I was amazed that a young woman could write with the voice of an old man so well.
A tremendously entertaining read!

I purchased this book on CDs for my father because one of his doctors recommended he read it. He is 85 years old and absolutely loved it. When he was a young boy they had a lady who “helped” them around the house and this book brought back many fond memories of that time in his life. He listened to the book in just a few days. This book will take you to another place in time.

The War between States remains one of the most important events in American history, not so much because of its impact on slavery (it substituted the exploitative feudal relationship of antebellum slavery with democratic hegemony), but because of the way it radically changed the conception of the United States. Rather than an agreement among states, Union was seen — as a result of the war — to be a compulsory membership organization under a strong national government. This event has been treated by many interpretations which I would regard as irrelevant or not worth quite the weight they are given. People and ideas in these times are regarded as abstractions and contorted to fit all kinds of bizarre theories. Ayers’ strength is the intimacy of his ground-level account of the preceding year and outbreak of the war. By focusing on the common American, he tells a story of the conflict that is all the more vivid and convincing. His book centers around two counties, one in Pennsylvania, one in Virginia — they are geographically close, they are culturally close — the difference between them is slavery. Ayers book follows their lives and thoughts, taken from reams of letters. Reconstructed from myriad first-hand accounts of events, it reads much like a good story. Because of the nature of Ayers approach to his subject, his thesis is difficult to discern. But it is there to be found if one combines attentive reading with an understanding of the impact of war on people’s lives. Ayers indicates, against politically correct orthodoxy, that the War between States was not inevitable, but the result of any emotions and ideologies swept up in the sectional conflict. Partly hidden is the implication that Republican ideas concerning Unionism and secession was the contingent factor in turning what might have been peaceful secession into nation-breaking bloodshed. John Imboden, an important Virginia slaveholder in Ayers’ story, is illustrative. Imboden, like many others in the bor

I read a ton of reviews and went ahead with the purchase.

Others mentioned that you can’t stop the aggitator while using the hose attachments… that’s a bigger problem than I thought. Since I have long carpet, that continuous motion keeps lifting carpet fibers up and sending them up through the hole that’s left from removing the attachment hose. It becomes a mess.

Second, the hose for attachments is so short it really serves no purpose. I am just using it for a push vac. and I will have to use another machine for the jobs that need a hose.

The suction is really good… it actually lifts up the carpt off the floor in some areas… not in a bad way, just shows how strong the suction grip is. Even though it picks up the carpet, it seems it doesn’t pick up every piece of debris… how can that be?

Overall, I am glad I bought this machine because I had limited funds and needed something quick. I would have probably bought a better machine if I had the money, but for now it does the job.
Art by MAL retrospectively

No matter how many times I read this book, I am drawn in by the imagination, the creativity, and the enchantment of the tale of Artemis Fowl. The first in a set of five books, I resisted the lure of a 12-yr-old criminal-mastermind for a while, thinking the book too silly for my age. Now I run to the store the moment a new book in this series appears.

Artemis Fowl has a plan to gain back the money his father lost when he disappeared a year ago. Aided by Butler, his body guard, Artemis devises a plan to steal gold from the fairies. Young enough to still believe in magic, but old enough to construct a devious scheme, few could pull off what Artemis is about to do.

Our fairy heroine, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit, is the test case for allowing female elves to join the Lower Elemental Police recon unit, and she has been having a very bad week. After being attacked by a troll, she attempts to carry out the ritual to recharge her magic, but instead is captured by Artemis and Butler, thus beginning the hostage crisis.

Filled with interesting characters and an excellent usage of magic and technology, Artemis Fowl is a book that readers of any age should enjoy. My favorite part is how Colfer integrates magic and technology, instead of ignoring one in favor of the other, like so many urban fantasy writers do. Instead, Foaly, the centaur super-genius, uses technology to shield magic from human scanners and stay one step ahead of the Mud People.

The book is rich with detail that will keep the reader coming back. It’s been a few years since I last read the book, and I was amazed at how many things I didn’t remember and how I was still enthralled by the action. Even my roommate, who tends to feel that she is above reading “children’s” books, eagerly reads every new Artemis Fowl.

With the release of The Lost Colony, right now is the perfect time to pick up a copy of this classic and reread it. Then continue on to The Artic Incident, The Eternity Code, The Opal Decep

Works great. Better than the suction cup mounts. Buy it and you won’t be disappointed.
The Heart of Friendship

I recently started trail running and the Forerunner 305 has been great! It is nice to see how far you have run and see a total of miles for the week or month on the computer screen after downloading. I haven’t gotten into to evaluating my heart rate yet and I know there are many more options to learn about but for now this is a great tool for novice to expert. Oh and I even got lost when I ventured off the trail and was able to find my way back to my car by using the navi directional arrow! Awesome!
How To Make Life

I heared from a ton of friends that The Help is a must read. They were right. I couldn’t put it down. Having had a black maid 3 times a week while growing up, I had such empathy for the characters in the novel. We loved our maid and I think she loved us, but I will bet she felt like Aibelline and Minny at times. I hope Ms. Stockett writes another. I thought she captured the story beautifully. It is hard to believe this is her first novel!
